The history of the Dala horse

The Dala horses have been manufactured since the 17th century in central Sweden, where they were made from by-products of the local furniture carpentry painted in typical folk art. They were actually made as toys for children, but in the 20th century they were shown at the world exhibition in New York (New York Worlds fair) and have since symbolized Sweden.

Today they are a national symbol for Sweden. Our Dala horse are hand painted in the traditional folk art style called Kurbits and made in Nusnäs in central Sweden. Painted by hand means that each Dala horse are unique. The motive on the black dala horse is specially developed and exclusively made for ABBA The Museum and is only available in ABBA The Museum Shop.
